PRIMARY 4 MATH SYLLABUS
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
In Primary 4, your child will be able to:
- Work with tables and interpret graphs like line charts and pie charts.
- Add and subtract 4-digit numbers written and mental methods.
- Multiply (tables 6-9) and divide 3-digit by 1-digit and 4-digit by 1-digit numbers.
- Use mixed numbers and improper fractions and find fractions of a set; add and subtract.
- Compare decimals (up to 3 decimal places); convert decimals and fractions; all four operations.
- Area and perimeter; length, mass and volume measurements.
- Identify angles, line symmetry, properties of 3D shapes.
- Read and create bar graphs, pie charts, and tables to represent data
Primary 4 Mathematics Syllabus
Number & Algebra
– Understand numbers up to 100,000, including place value, rounding, and factors/multiples.
– Work with fractions (mixed and improper) and practice adding and subtracting them.
– Compare decimals, convert them to fractions, and use all operations.
Addition and Subtraction
– Multiply and divide numbers (up to 4 digits by 1 digit, and 3 digits by 2 digits).
Measurement
– Calculate the area and perimeter of rectangles, squares, and other shapes.
Geometry
– Learn to name, measure, and draw angles, and explore symmetry and 3D shapes.
Statistics
– Work with tables and interpret graphs like line charts and pie charts.
Common Struggles Faced by Primary 4 Students in Maths
- Adding fractions with unlike denominators and working with decimals.
- Multi-step problems and misreading graph data.
- Visualizing 3D shapes and measuring angles.
- Confusing rotations and applying math to real life.
