PRIMARY 6 MATH SYLLABUS

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

In Primary 6 (Standard), your child will be able to:
  • Divide fractions, calculate percentage increase/decrease, and solve related problems.
  • Work with ratios (a:b, a:b:c) and simple linear equations.
  • Calculate area of circles and composite figures, and volume of cubes and cuboids.
  • Find angles in composite figures.
  • Calculate averages and understand data relationships.

In Primary 6 (Foundation), your child will be able to:
  • Divide fractions, express them as decimals, and perform operations.
  • Solve percentage problems like discounts and interest.
  • Calculate area for triangles and composite figures, and volume for cubes/cuboids.
  • Understand properties of triangles and calculate angles.
  • Interpret pie charts and calculate averages.

Common Struggles Faced by Primary 6 Students in Maths

  1. Understanding and extracting relevant information from word problems to apply math concepts correctly can be difficult.

  2. Struggling to finish tasks within the time constraints of exams is a common issue.

  3. A weak grasp of previous topics makes it hard to progress in more advanced math areas.

  4. tough to understand abstract mathematical ideas like equations and symbols.

  5. Applying abstract math concepts to real-life situations is often a challenge.

  6. Relying on memorization without grasping the underlying concepts limits problem-solving ability.
