Best Math Tuition Singapore Lesson 17

LESSON 17 SYNOPSIS (7 April – 13 April 2025)

07 April 2025

At Matrix Math, we provide an engaging and detailed learning experience for your child. Matrix Math Tuition programme focuses on essential concepts that will further strengthen their mathematical foundation. The lesson synopsis gives parents a clear preview of the topics and problem-solving skills that will be covered in class. At Matrix Math, we ensure that each lesson is designed to build confidence and mastery in math, preparing students for success in both school and beyond.

Primary 1 Lesson 17

This week, we will continue with Lesson 5 on “Numbers to 20

We will revisit the concept of “Comparison of quantity“. This concept was taught in term 1.

At Primary 1, there are only 3 possible ways this concept can be tested in a problem sum.

  • Compare to find the bigger group.
  • Compare to find the smaller group.
  • Compare to find the difference

Primary 2 Lesson 17

This week, we will continue with Mass Lesson 3.

We will review the concept of Part and Whole and also delve into the Comparison of Quantities concept that involves 3 items. This particular concept might pose a slightly greater challenge as most Comparison of Quantities questions for P2 only involve 2 items.

Primary 3 Lesson 17

This week, our focus will remain on Money, where we will explore the Internal Transfer concept. There are three types of Internal Transfer concepts:

  • Working forward – where the total remains unchanged
  • Transferring the difference – where the groups start out equal
  • Transferring the difference – where a new difference is found in the end.

Although questions involving Internal Transfer may seem challenging, the steps to solve them are straightforward. However, some students may find them difficult due to misinterpretation of the question or a lack of exposure.

Primary 4 Lesson 17

This week, our Primary 4 lessons will continue studying Fractions, with a primary emphasis on the concept of Remainder Theory.

This theory falls under the “Part and Whole” concept and typically involves dividing a larger part into smaller components.

These types of questions are unique to fractions and are crucial to understand, as they are often tested

Primary 5 Lesson 17

This week, our focus will shift to the topic of Volume.

During this lesson, we plan to cover four key Volume problem-solving concepts:

  • Involve Part and Whole.
  • Involve Working Forward and Working Backwards
  • Involve Foreign Object: We will expose students to problems that include a ‘foreign object’, adding complexity to their volume calculation skills.

Our aim with these lessons is to enhance the students’ understanding of volume, and to develop their problem-solving capabilities within this context.

Primary 6 Lesson 17

This week, we will delve deeper into the topic of volume and focus on three key concepts:

  • Quantity and Value: Students will explore the relationship between base area, water level, and volume using the table method.
  • Proportion Concept: We will introduce the concept of proportionality about base area, water level, and volume.
  • Similar Figures: In this lesson, students will focus on solving volume problem sums involving cubes.

By covering these concepts, we aim to strengthen students’ problem-solving skills, develop their ability to apply volume concepts
